Queer Pride Always
With a shift in contemporary fashion towards free expression, especially in areas such as gender fluidity and sexuality expression, and this is particularly so for those who identify with the LGBTQIA+ community, my concept revolves specifically around hyperfemininity in queer people, drawing on implications of queer semiotics as a language within the community, and communicating social justice messages, like protest slogans.
Drawing on my personal experience in the queer space and the impact that clothing can have on the expression of identity, I draw inspiration from contemporary and modern examples of the queer experience, as reflected in art, music, and pop culture icons.
Hyperfemininity, especially, is examined by looking at how it can be pushed back against and queer expression or heteronormativity. I drew on icons that display a level of hyperfemininity and gender expression in their fashion, including Chappell Roan, Troye Sivan, Grayson Perry, and Marsha P Johnson.
